If you haven’t yet visited the vineyards and wine cellars of Puglia, then there is never a better time than Cantine Aperte – which translates into ‘Open Cellars.’ The open cellars event takes place annually on the last weekend in May, across the entire region, and is attracting more wine lovers each year.
What is Cantine Aperte?
Cantine Aperte was arranged by the Wine Tourism Movement in 1993, and has since become the most important date on the wine calendar in Puglia.
Puglia is a wine region with lots of wineries scattered across Italy’s boot, and for one weekend a year, during the Cantine Aperte, these wineries open their doors to wine lovers from across the world.
Of course, some wineries offer tours all year round, but Cantine Aperte acts as a celebration of the wine region itself.
Visiting a winery during this special open cellars event is more like a cultural experience, where you not only taste the wine but are invited to pick the grapes and venture into the cellars to discover how it is made.
