The Best Time to Visit the Canary Islands

A popular tourist destination, the Canary Islands are filled with scenic and cultural sights. The seven main islands, including Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, La Palma, and El Hierro, offer year-round sun, making it the ideal place to head when you’re looking to catch a tan and relax in the heat.

Weather in the Canary Islands

Found less than 100 miles off the coast of Morocco, the Canary Islands have a subtropical climate, so if you’re trying to escape the winter chill in Europe, you can head to these beautiful islands. But if you’re heading here when the temperatures reach their peak, be warned it’ll be very hot. During the hottest months, the mercury regularly registers over 30 degrees Celsius and they’ll be very little rain.

If you like to recline in the sun or shade with a cold drink in hand then it’s perfect but if you prefer to get out and about choosing one of the cooler, though still warm, months might be a better option.

Summer

Summer is the most popular season for sunseekers to head to the Canary Islands and it’s when you’ll find the most tourists hitting the beach, sampling delicious plates of food, and drinking in the many bars. There’s a great mix of tourists on the islands at this time of year, from families with young children to students celebrating the end of term, and there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Waterparks, boat cruises, and heading to the pristine beaches are perfect activities for the summer. When the sunsets there will be plenty of evening entertainment to choose from too.

Spring or Autumn?

If the soaring temperatures of the summer months are a little too high for you, booking between March and May is ideal. It’ll still be warm and tanning weather but the summer crowds have yet to arrive and you can explore some of the beautiful natural scenery and bustling towns too.

From September is a similar story, the rain might start to fall during autumn but the warm weather means you can dry off quickly and can discover true delights away from the resort and beach.
